Food Quality, Safety and Nutrition: Innovations and Global Strategies

The field of food quality, safety, and nutritional health is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of global public health amid rapidly evolving supply chains and shifting consumer demands. With globalization, food travels through more diverse and complex routes, raising the likelihood of contamination, adulteration, and nutritional loss. These challenges are exacerbated by emerging pollutants, variations in regulatory standards, and the need for preservation innovations. Recent research has advanced intelligent detection technologies, multifaceted food preservation strategies, and multi-omics-driven nutrition assessments that promise to revolutionize how food systems are managed and optimized. However, persistent gaps remain: effective international regulatory collaboration, the translation of laboratory advances to real-world implementation, and the holistic assessment of alternative proteins still require focused investigation.

This Research Topic aims to provide a centralized, interdisciplinary platform for consolidating and accelerating scientific progress in food quality, safety, and nutritional health. By bringing together leading-edge research from scientists, industry experts, and policymakers, the goal is to uncover innovative technologies and regulatory synergies that can ensure safer, healthier, and more sustainable food systems worldwide. Key objectives include fostering global collaboration, identifying opportunities for the application of artificial intelligence and biosensing in safety assurance, and exploring strategies for personalized nutrition within dynamic dietary landscapes.

The scope of this Research Topic is limited to cross-disciplinary solutions that advance the assurance of food safety and improvements in nutritional health within globalized supply chain contexts. We welcome submissions that demonstrate technological innovation, regulatory alignment, or integrative approaches to existing and emerging challenges. To gather further insights, we invite articles addressing, but not limited to, the following core topics:

o Food Safety Guarantee: Focus on raw material risk assessment under global supply chains; food preservation and storage (e.g., intelligent cold chain management, multifunctional radiative cooling materials for zero-energy preservation); intelligent detection technologies for new pollutants (based on AI and biosensing); and international regulatory collaboration mechanisms.

o Nutrition Innovation: Explore nutrient metabolism mechanisms, personalized dietary strategies driven by multi-omics, and interaction between functional food components and gut microbiota.

o Sustainable Development: Cover safety and nutrition evaluation of alternative proteins, and digital traceability of food quality.
